I took zoloft yesterday, jumped to 50mg instead of easing into it the way i did lexapro a few years ago and i keep seeing people say it takes a few weeks, but i feel a lot less irritable today (day 2) and being as i have been a total ***** the past few weeks (on depo) Its hard for me to imagine this is all just "in my mind" is it possible that it can take a small affect already?

  1. Sure can.  You also can be very tired for the first 30 days.  It however is very important to know that it will go away.  You will feel more balanced once your body has gotten use to it for a couple of weeks.  Also, once you begin to take it, it isn't something you "just stop taking".  You must wean yourself from it.  Good luck

  2. Not very likely. It really does take a few weeks to build up in your system. It's possible that hormones have been the cause of your moods, or circumstances. It's good that things are changing for you, and you see how things can be once you've been taking your meds for a while.

  3. yes it can. for most people it may take a couple of weeks, however for a select few  you can see results in the 1st day. it all depends on how your body metabolozies the drug in your system,

  4. it may do some zany stuff at first, but it may be all in your head. it sounds though, like thats a good thing.  i suffered from severe depression for years before i was medicated and was given zoloft. i was convinced it wasnt working because all it did was make me feel like throwing up on the train every day on the way to work. a friend of mine who was also taking it told me she had nightsweats and felt a little irritable for a month or so. my personal experience with it turned out to literally be lifesaving, though. after a month and a half or so, the aching feeling i had every day and the complete lack of energy (i mean i did not even have the energy to stand up straight or walk up a short flight of stairs) that depression had so kindly provided me with had all but dissappeared (im still not a bubbly, bouncy girl, but i feel a whole h**l of a lot better). i used to cry myself to sleep at least twice a week and i cant remember the last time ive done that (i started the zoloft 4 years ago and have been off for 2 years - WEENED off; thats important- and still feel like i did when i was on it- no severe depression). as for taking 50mg, if you do take it too early when you were advised to break it in half of take the 25 mg pill, it will sometimes make you sick or sleepless, even if it hasnt within the first couple of days, so i would suggest cutting it in half for a while then upping the dose when your dr. advises you too. trust me, 50 mg will not be an advantage over 25 mg right now. that said, not everyone takes well to zoloft. most people have to take a few things (seperately of course) to find one that truly works for them.  but hey, if you feel better, you feel better! just dont take double doses; it isnt as good for you as it may seem
