Canada Men’s national hockey team eyeing to retain gold medal at Pan American Games in Mexico
Canadian national hockey team is eyeing to defend their gold medal as the team has been announced for the 26th Pan American Games scheduled to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14 to 30. The tournament will serve as the qualification
round for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The Canadian national team will participate as the top ranked and the favourite side in the tournament with the target to defend their 2007 Pan American Games title which were held in Rio de Janeiro four years back.
“This opportunity represents the culmination of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment from our athletes and staff alike. Over the course of the last eight months we have been exposed to both Pan American and European based competitions that I feel
have prepared us well for the challenge ahead,” Robin D’Abero, the Head Coach of the Canadian Men’s national hockey team stated about their preparation for the Pan American Games.
Ken Pereira, the captain of the team, looked very pleased at the team selection and stated that it is a blend of youth and experienced players.
“I’m always excited to represent Canada at the Pan Ams. The team is looking forward to it, especially since this will be our first opportunity to qualify for London 2012,” Ken Pereira, the national skipper, excitingly stated his views about their upcoming
assignment in Mexico.
The Canadian national Men’s team for the Pan American Games includes the following players:
David Carter, Keegan Pereira, Adam Froese, Scott Tupper, Jagdish Gill, Mark Pearson, Matthew Guest, Richard Hildreth, David Jameson, Antoni Kindler, Ken Pereira, Rob Short, Sukhwinder “Gabbar” Singh, Iain Smythe, Jesse Watson and Philip Wright.
Meanwhile, Robin D’Abreo will be the Head Coach along with Anthony Farry as his assistant. Andrew Schouten will serve as team manager, Bruce Pinel as Sports Psychologist, Bob Dunlop as Physiotherapist, Navin Prasad as Physician and Inderpal Sehmbi as video
analyst.
It will be interesting to see how the Canadians perform during the Pan American Games. They will be looking to defend their title and also qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.
