Canada Open 2012: Agusriadi Wijaya, Beiwen Zhang prove their mettle in pre quarter-finals

Mixed Doubles experts Agusriadi Wijaya Amphie and Beiwen Zhang forged a fruitful chemistry against Phillip Chew-Jamie Subandhi in second round of Yonex Canada Open and marched into quarter-finals on July 12, 2012.
However, it was not smooth ride to victory as they earned this honour with 21-17, 15-21 and 21-17 after an exhausting exercise of 37 minutes.
Both teams played with laudable conviction and their grueling effort received great admiration from the audience present in Richmond Oval badminton arena.
Agusriadi Wijaya and Beiwen Zhang, who belong to USA and Singapore respectively, had a dream start in this crucial contest as they hardly faced any resistance in opening part of first set.
They swiftly registered 4-1 margin and then doubled the impact by reaching at 9-5 score position.
Though, the opposing team narrowed gap with 8-9 but it was not enough to avoid a three-point deficit before the interval.
The twosome of Agusriadi-Beiwen accelerated their pace immediately after the break and bagged four points in a row.
Phillip and Jamie built pressure by prevailing in four consecutive rallies in final moments but still they could not avoid 17-21 defeat in opening game.
However, they managed to rise in following game and stunned their rivals with a staggering performance.
In first half, they were bit sluggish in the start but a power packed campaign after 7-8 provided them the required momentum.
They fetched four valuable points just before the announcement of mid-game break and placed decent total of 11-8.
After one-minute interval, they dictated the opposing shuttlers all the way to game point situation.
They strengthened their grip over game with 17-14 and then wrapped this segment of the match with decisive figure of 21-15.
This revised status of 1-1 match score position made the decider consequential as both contenders were just one knock away from next round entry.
However, Agusriadi and Beiwen proved themselves technically and tactically superior as they did not lose grip at any stage of the game and sealed a splendid win with a 21-17 margin.
Now their next challenge is to surpass top seeded duo Toby Ng-Grace Gao in quarter-final round of the event.
