Canada Open 2012: Misaki Matsutomo, Ayaka Takahashi rule in Women’s Doubles event
Women’s Doubles title of Yonex Canada Open belonged to Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi as they unseated Yonemoto Koharu-Yuriko Miki in the final match on July 15, 2012.
Both Japanese pairs made this contest memorable by battling hard for 57 minutes to read final result of 21-15, 15-21 and 21-12.
The victorious couple locked the honour by performing exceedingly well in the opening and closing segment of the show while other finalists could rise only in the middle of the battle.
Misaki and Ayaka, who were top ranked contenders in this event, remained invincible in the final round and secured esteemed Grand Prix title.
World Number 14 duo opened their campaign in perfect manner and established an early advantage in match score position.
In the beginning of first set, they swiftly gathered four valuable points and pushed their opponents on the back-foot.
They doubled the lead with 9-6 total but faltered in next couple of rallies which resulted in tight margin of 11-9 before the interval.
Misaki and Ayaka changed their tactics after one-minute break and reinstated their dominance. They prevailed in three consecutive rallies to place respectable figure of 14-9.
This five-point deficit proved final blow for Yonemoto-Yuriko as they could not recover until final result of 21-15.
However, they stormed back in very next game and managed to keep the contest alive.
They did not show any sign of confusion and played with great conviction throughout this crucial game.
In first half, they grabbed four points in a row and successfully carried this momentum all the way to mid-game break.
They placed indomitable total of 11-8 and then magnified the impact with five fruitful rallies immediately after half time.
The twosome of Yonemoto and Yuriko capitalised the advantage and wrapped this segment of the match with a notable margin of 21-15.
This score position turned into a consequential decider as both compatriot pairs were standing on same level.
However, third set remained interesting until first half as Misaki-Ayaka completely ruled the court in second half of the set.
They set foundation of their victory with a decent lead in 11-8 and then clinched Women’s Doubles crown by registering an overwhelming figure of 21-12.
