Canada Open Grand Prix 2012: Yu Hsien Lin knocks out Henri Hurskainen in an epic semi-final battle
Yu Hsien Lin, an emerging shuttler from Chinese Taipei, powered his way into Men’s Singles final after putting up stunning performance against his higher ranked rival Henri Hurskainen of Sweden in semi-final battle at Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 at
Richmond, Canada, on Saturday, July 14.
Yu Hsien, who is un-seeded player in Men’s Singles main draw of Yonex Canada Open, put up thrashing show in the semi-final encounter and defeated Hurskainen who was the top seed in the championship.
The lower ranked Yu Hsien could not find a perfect start in the match but managed to win the second set with a tight score on the board. However, he played tremendous badminton in the final set and registered a sensational victory over his rival in rubber
games.
The top seeded Hurskainen, in contrast, took the first game easily but remained unlucky to finish up the second game. He lost his focus in the final set and lost to his lower ranked opponent in three games of 60 minutes.
In the first game, Hurskainen played tremendous badminton from the opening rallies and maintained an impressive pressure on his rival. He took a stunning lead of 11-5 until the one-minute interval.
Yu Hsien gave a good fight to his Swedish opponent after the break and managed to end up the gap by reaching at 11-11.
However, Yu Hsien failed to take any lead as he could not create gaps in his challenger’s court and lost the set with a margin of 16-21.
In the second game, Yu Hsien played impressive badminton this time and remained close until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the top seeded Hurskainen showed aggression and took an impressive 18-13 lead when Yu Hsien showed his class and came from behind to snatch the game with a dramatic score of 24-22.
In the decider, both shuttler remained neck-to-neck in the opening half but it was the lower ranked Yu Hsien who took over the control from his rival in the ending phase and won the game with a one-sided score of 21-14.
The un-seeded Yu Hsien emerged as the winner in this Men’s Singles semi-final showdown with thrilling score of 16-21, 24-22 and 21-14.
