Canada Open Grand Prix: Joycelyn Ko tames Sarada Jasti in Women’s Singles first round
Canada’s budding shuttler Joycelyn Ko showed her tremendous skills on court as she toppled India’s Sarada Jasti in Women’s Singles first round at the Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 at Richmond, Canada, on Wednesday, July 11.
Joycelyn cheered her home fans by putting up spectacular show against her Indian opponent and advanced into the next stage after ending up the contest in a commanding fashion.
The local shuttler was in pretty good control of rallies throughout the clash and she showed no sign of confusion at any stage. She managed to end up the battle in two games in just 27 minutes with a huge margin on the board.
On the other hand, Sarada also played well as she gave a wonderful fight to her Canadian opponent in the first set but failed to live up to expectations in the second game and knelt down to Joycelyn in straight sets with a comfortable margin.
Sarada played incredible badminton in opening points of first game as she did not let her Canadian opponent to find her rhythm and set up a sensational lead at the early stage.
In the meanwhile, Joycelyn tried her best to maintain her speed but failed to play positive badminton and remained struggling at 4-11 until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the Canadian lady geared up her speed and started to close the gap. She employed her attacking skills by taking the bird early and troubled her rival all the way and narrowed the score.
At the ending phase of opening set, the Indian shuttler was slightly ahead at 18-16 when Joycelyn scored five straight points to wrap up the game with a decent score of 21-18.
In the second set, Joycelyn was in a different mood as she played with precision and took an 11-6 lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Canadian lady continued putting up her tremendous performance on court and took the second set easily with a stunning 21-12 score on the board.
Joycelyn won her first match of Canada Open in a dominating way by ending it up with a comfortable margin of 21-18 and 21-12.
