Chinese Taipei’s upcoming shuttler Tien Chen Chou stole the limelight as he bagged Men’s Singles title after beating his lower ranked compatriot Yu Hsien Lin in the final encounter at Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 on Sunday, July 15, in Canada.
The second seeded Tien Chen, who has been proving his elevated craft in the entire competition, remained consistent in his impressive performance and overpowered his un-seeded team-mate after working hard for 65 minutes.
The higher ranked Tien Chou could not find a good start as he failed to play his normal game and lost the first set. However, he surprised his rival by making a striking comeback and grabbed the following games to register a thrilling victory over his rival
in rubber games.
In the meanwhile, the giant killer Yu Hsien could not prove his worth in the title match while playing against his experienced opponent. He played well in opening set but failed to take advantage of his aggressive approach in following sets and eventually
lost the battle in three games.
The lower ranked Tien Chen played to his maximum potential as he was impressive on court and dictated the pace of rallies in a dominating fashion.
He was leading the game at the early stage of opening set but Yu Hsien controlled the driving seat by playing attacking badminton and took a small lead until the break.
After the interval, Tien Chen failed to cope up with the power and speed of his young opponent and lost opening game with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the second game, it was Tien Chen who again remained dominant in opening rallies and was ahead on the board at 11-10 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the second seeded Tien Chen did not let his rival to level the score and remained consistent in his better play.
The higher ranked Tien Chen remained on course in the ending phase of second game and easily won it with a margin of 21-16.
In the decider, Tien Chen was everywhere on court as he played flawless badminton and wrapped up the game with a 21-9 margin on the board.
Tien Chen clinched Men's Singles title after winning the final match in three sets with an entertaining score of 15-21, 21-16 and 21-9.
