Canada U19 v Namibia U19 – ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier – Match Recap
Namibia Under-19s won by 3 wickets (with 7 balls remaining)
In the ongoing International Cricket Council http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers, Namibia U19 beat the team from Canada by three wickets with seven deliveries remaining after successfully chasing a tally of 236 runs posted by Canada at The Inch, Dublin.
After winning the toss, Canada chose to bat first in a bid to post a formidable total for Namibia to chase; however, the side suffered an early loss when opener Akash Shah was given leg-before-wicket on a sensational delivery by Z Groenewald in the second
over of the match after scoring five runs off 10 deliveries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nikhil-Dutta-c79597 then formed a commendable partnership as both batsmen showed impressive touch with the bat against the opposition.
However, the partnership was broken in the 10th over when Kumar edged a delivery by SJ Baard at second slip which was nicely caught by the 16-year-old Merwe Erasmus. The batsman walked back after playing an innings of 24 runs off 24 deliveries
as the total score by Canada at the time of his departure was 55 runs for the loss of two wickets.
An over later, Kyle Leslie Tyrone Edghill also went back to the pavilion after playing a knock of nine runs off 10 deliveries as he tried to pull a delivery by SJ Baard which popped high enough for van Vuuren to take an easy catch at cover.
Meanwhile on the other end Dutta showed extreme form as he kept the score board ticking by clobbering the bowlers almost at will. The Canadian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kesavan-Juvarajan-c71036 provided some support to his ace batsman as both cricketers tried to forge a formidable
partnership.
After playing a tentative innings of 25 runs off 50 deliveries the skipper lost his calm and while trying to smack Johan Bredell Wessells fell short as S Groenewald took a glorious catch after running from point to dismiss the captain of the opposite side.
After Juvarajan, none of the batsmen could give a commendable support to Dutta, who remained unbeaten at the end of the Canadian batting after playing a mammoth innings of 116 runs. In the end, Canada managed to give Namibia U19 a target of 237 runs to win.
Coming out to bat, Namibia knew that they would have to bat extremely well to overcome an impressive score posted by Canada, however, the side did not take off to a flying start as they lost the wicket of opener Justin Baard in the third over when after
scoring just eight runs off five deliveries the batsman was given leg-before-wicket on the bowling of Maninderjit Singh Aulakh.
Opener Wian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Vuuren lost his wicket after posting 30 runs off 34 deliveries. His wicket was grabbed by Akhlas Umar when the batsman was caught by Dutta.
However, Namibia’s middle-order prevented a total meltdown and took the game away from Canada as Merwe Gerhard Erasmus and Zhivago Groenewald played an important role in their team’s victory by contributing 61 and 68 runs in the total score card of their
team.
