Canada defeat Scotland by 4-1 to clinch three-match series
Continuing its winning momentum, Canada powered a convincing 4-1 win over Scotland in the third test of the three-match series and clinched the title of the tournament. The one-sided contest was held at the Peffermill in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In the first half of play, Canadians opened the scoring when Philip Wright scored the first goal of the day. His shot was a powerful hit that went past the Scottish goalie, leading the score at 1-0. In the later time, Gabbar Singh notched another score and
doubled the tally at 2-0.
Though the Scots started a more offensive game after conceding a couple of goals, they failed to reduce the widely spread difference in the first half. The Scottish strikers were carrying back-to-back strikes to take their team into the score-net. In the
later time, Adam MacKenzie earned a penalty-corner, but failed to capitalise the opportunity. In the very next minute, Fergus Dunn touched the pass of Michael Bremner and scored the first goal of the day for Scotland. MacKenzie found another chance to level
the score, but his hit was blocked in the hands of Canadian goalie. The first half action concluded with Canada sitting on top 2-1, over their competitor Scottish side.
In the second half of play, Cachia was called upon to block the attacks from Canadian strikers. In the starting minutes, Callum Mine committed a foul and gave Scotland a chance to level the score, which they missed for the second time. MacKenzie failed to
avail the chance and his hit went wide of the goal.
The Scottish side earned plenty of chances to level the score, but failed to do so. Willie Marshall found another chance, but he could not convert the penalty-corner. The hit was again saved in the hands of Milne that kept the pressure alive on the home
team.
In a counter-offence, Mark Pearson and Keegan Pereira scored one goal each and expanded the lead up to three goals by 4-1. As the final horn sounded, Canada won the game by three points and as well clinched the series by 2-1.
In the meantime, the Under-21 Scottish team made it two in a row, as it thrashed Canada U-21 by four goals, 5-1. Alan Forsyth scored four out of total five goals and made the victory possible. He scored three goals in the first half of play, while converting
another penalty-corner in the second half action.
The resilient defence from Scottish side demonstrated impressive game and allowed only a single point in the last quarter of the game. With final horn of the time completion, the junior Scots took the revenge of senior team and rode away the field with a
commanding victory.
