Canada enters hopeful in The World Amateur Team Golf Championship
The men’s World Amateur Team Golf Championship will be taking place with Canada holding a rather positive approach for the Eisenhower Trophy. The event is a four day extravaganza from the 28th of October to the 31st of this month
at the par 71 and 72 course. The play will be divided crosswise, two courses, of which one is the 6,962-yard Buenos Aires Golf Club while the other is 6,801-yard Olivos Golf Club.
According to the director of Golf Canada, Doug Roxburgh, he has high hopes for his three man team and pledged that the team would be providing a solid performance. Roxburgh is the director of high performance and the non-playing
team captain of the tournament.
From the director’s perspective, it is experience that speaks. Roxburgh has been Canada’s representative many times at various World face-offs and has been the Canadian amateur champion 4 times. Today he is backing up a team that
is headed into an event held every two years since 1958; the event is prearranged by the International Golf Federation (IGF) and is hosting teams from 70 countries.
Roxburgh, the member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame said that the Canadian team is a team we can call deep. He assured that the team has yawning talent that is made all-too-irresistible to admire with its strong determination.
“We look forward to a first-rate play from this squadron and have hopes on furthering the successes this team has been able to collect from the past events” Roxburgh said.
Canada has collected a 1986 championship win along with 11 top-five finishes in record. The much talked about Canadian team includes Eugene Wong, Cam Burke and Albin Choi from North Vancouver, New Hamburg and Toronto. The tournament
is following a stroke play approach and had 18 holes to play at the Olivos Golf Club and Buenos Aires Golf Club.
As far as Canada’s women’s team is concerned, they aren’t far behind the fame zone, this team finished seventh in the previous week at the Buenos Aires after playing the world women’s amateur team golf championship.
In a quick review in the pairings scenario, one recent and one ex-member of the Texas A&M men’s golf team will be appearing at the championship. Other than that, Nacho Elvira will represent Spain, whereas Andrea Pavan is competing
for Italy. The All-American is paired with Brazil’s Rafael Becker while Pavan is paired with Juan Perello of the Dominican Republic and Tze Huang Choo of Singapore.
