Canada enters the semi-finals: FIVB Volleyball Men´s Junior World Championship
The 7th of August saw Canada compete with Tunisia in the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Men´s Junior World Championship. The match between the two teams took place at the Caio Martins Gymnasium in Niteroi. The four long and grueling sets
were entertaining for the audience and at the end the Canadians had secured themselves a ticket into the semi-finals of the tournament.
The first set of the match was tight but the Canadians went ahead in the end to bag a win. The second set was also taken by the Canadians as the Tunisian side was seen struggling with its game. However, a two set deficit sent a wake up call to the Tunisians
and they took the third set for their own. Unfortunately for the Tunisian side, that was the only moment of glory they experienced in the entire match and lost the fourth set of the game to Canada. The final set scores stood at the following points: 25-20,
25-21, 21-25 and 25-23.
The Canadian coach, Georges Laplante expressed his sentiments in the following manner after his team had won the day:  “I´m very happy that we are on the top of the group. In this tournament there are no easy matches. Tunisia fought in every set for every
point. In the third set, they did not want to give us the victory so they fought a little harder. We gave our best and played with a lot of energy through the match and in the fourth set."
On the other hand, the Tunisian coach had the following statements to give at the press conference after the match: “The Canadian team is stronger than us. It was a good performance from both teams; they played in the same level. The Canadians were more
focused. We had fewer errors than yesterday. We asked them to push to have a good game."
The first set of the match saw both the teams go head to head with each other and the match reached an earl tie at 5-5. However, Canada was in a leading position at 8-5 when the first technical time out was reached. The Tunisian side kept trailing behind
at 11-8 as Canada moved towards an opening set win at 25-20.
The second set of the match also reached an early tie at 4-4 with Canada leading at 8-5 later on. Tunisia could not wrench the advantage away from their rivals as Canada sailed towards a comfortable second set win at 25-21.
The Tunisian team battle hard in the third set and took the lead at 7-6. They kept going strong all through the set and were finally able to bag a win at 25-21. The fourth set was tough and the match was still tied at 23-23. However, it was the Canadian
side that sealed the deal with a 25-23 win.
The Canadians have been able to finish Pool G of the tournament after tallying a 3-0 record.
