Canada fail to withstand USA in water polo match: Day five – 2012 Women’s Pan Pacs
Canada’s national team failed to withstand gruelling efforts of American squad on fifth day of the 2012 Women’s Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), on Thursday, January 12.
USA faced strong resistance from the Canadian squad throughout the four-quarter game, but they managed to grab victory. The Americans scored eight goals in the match and overwhelmed Canada’s seven goals effort.
The match started with the furiousness of both teams, where Canada advanced on the scorecard by posting first goal of the game. Their effort was trailed by American players, who scored two goals to surge ahead of Canada with a 2-1 effort in the first quarter.
Both teams elevated their efforts in the second quarter. Canada notched up two goals in the second round but their effort remained harmless to the Americans, who stroke four goals. USA successfully extended its lead to three goals after the halftime, as
the score remained 6-3.
The third quarter started with the supremacy of Canadian players, who dictated terms to their opponents by scoring more goals. They scored three goals in the third round while USA was able to accomplish two goals only. The Canadian team was able to narrow
the lead to two goals as the score was 8-6, after the third round.
The final round was pretty tense, as the Canadian squad scored another goal and was just one score behind USA. On the other side, the Americans geared up their efforts and blocked all struggles of their challenging team. Finally, the time expired and Canada
lost the match from just one goal.
Maggie Steffens of USA was nominated as the top goal scorer of the game, as her two goals in the second quarter played a vital role in USA’s victory.
Furthermore, USA, which now stands second, is preparing for its next match with Australian Barbarians, which are on the fifth spot on overall points table. The match is expected to be an easy win for USA as the Barbarians have won just one match in the tournament
so far. In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all scheduled events.
