  1. rocker199200 - the Canadian ball is no longer larger than the America ball, that changed back in the early '80's. The league changed the size of the ball shortly after QB Vince Ferragamo came up and broke the CFL interception record. I'm not sure if that's why the league changed the ball but I know that shortly after the ball was changed. If I had to guess I'd say 1983. Either way, the balls are the same size now.

  2. Think about it as American football but with some space out there to make some actual offense happen. The game itself can be much more fun to watch than NFL but the talent level is a notch below. Not as far below as most people think though. Just ask Ricky Williams if an NFL player can come north and dominate the league.

  3. jcam is pretty accurate, other differences, 12 players per side, larger endzone, larger ball, and any kickoff, missed fieldgoal or punt that leaves play in the endzone is worth 1 point,

canadian football also has the greatest passer in pro sports, damon allen, who has more professional passing yards then anyone, passing warren moon in 2006 (moon had combined cfl/nfl passing yards totalling 70553 (21000 in cfl)

allen in 22 seasons has 71889 passing yards, and has also rushed for 11905 yards (15th professional, 3rd all time CFL)

  4. why answer this yank, their football isn't football, they throw it, only reason its so big is because of the 300 million fatties that go and eat all the hot dogs.

why the cheerleaders coz its boring, stop starts all the time, hockey craps all over this boring sport of grid iron.

  5. similar to that of the NFL, with a few exceptions there are only eight teams in it's league and instead of playing in a Superbowl they compete for a national Grey cup. with such teams as the Ottawa renegades,Toronto Argonauts,BC lions,Hamilton tiger-cats, Calgary stampede rs, Montreal alouettes, Edmonton Eskimos, Winnipeg blue bombers, and the Saskatchewan rough riders.  it' just as exciting as the American football so check it out.

  6. The balls are the same size, but this is a more recent development.  Some of us probably remember the T-Shirts with "Our Balls Are Bigger" that were popular in the mid 1990's...

  7. maybe you should watch a game.

  8. It's the father of American football, back in the 1800's Harvard invited McGill University (of Montreal) to play a two game series, the first one using Harvard rules, the second using McGill ruleswhich was the rough basis for the CFL. The Americans liked the Canadian game so much that they adopted the rules, made a couple of modifications, and it eventually evolved into the NFL.

  9. Although the league actually started some 95 years ago as a rugby league it evolved into the grid iron type of game.

It has actually been played this way longer than than the NFL.

  10. It's the Canadian version of gridiron. Rugby morphed into gridiron in Canada around the same time as it did in the US, but evolved slightly differently.

  11. its kinda kool with 10 extra yards and 12 players a side and only 3 downs

  12. It is just like American football only better. The difference is

    1. a 110 yard Field and it is wider

    2. 3 downs

    3. bigger end zone

    4. the Field goal posts are at the front of the end zone

    5. it is older

    6. plays 18 games

    7. 12 players

The winningest team is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers my favorite CFL team.

  13. It's very similar to American Football-with a few variations on the rules...only three downs instead of four; played on a slightly bigger field with a bigger endzone, etc.

And we've played it for 95 years.

  14. think the end zone is bigger and the payroll alot smaller. alot of US college kids play here also

  15. Its very similar to american football but it has 3 downs insted of 4. Ya its a "CRAZY CANADIAN INVENTION". And canadians are playing it for 95 years

  16. Canadian football is very similar to American football but the two sports do have differences. For one the field of Canadian football is 110 yards x 65 yards with 20 yard endzones as compared to 100 yards long x 53 1/3 yards with 10 yard endzones for American football and Canadian football has 12 players per side as opposed to 11 per side. Also the goalposts in Canadian football are on the goal line as opposed to behind the endzone. Canadian football has three downs instead of four downs and if a punt goes into the endzone it is worth a point called a single. Canadian football does not have a fair catch rule. These are the notable differences between American football and Canadian football.
