Canada lose their way after good start against Australia – ICC World Cup 2011 news
Canada failed to make most of a good start by their top order batsmen in a Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
Despite being at 150 for 2 at one stage, the minnows were bowled out for 211 in 45.4 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Bagai-c46284 won the toss and elected to bat first, as the conditions were excellent for batting. There was no moisture in the wicket and the bowlers were expected to have a tough day in the field.
The start to the innings was terrific for the minnows, as John Davison and Hiral Patel smashed the ball to all parts of the park. They scored 41 runs in just 23 balls of their innings, but Davison was not able to carry onto the start he got. He got out for
14 from 12 balls in the last innings of his career, as he had announced his retirement from cricket earlier in the day.
However, Patel kept on attacking the opposition and showed no mercy for the Australian bowlers. The 19-year-old opener threw his wicket away after constructing a blazing 54 runs from 45 balls. His innings included 5 fours and 3 towering sixes.
The Canadian captain then walked out in the middle to join Zubin Surkari, and the pair batted sensibly to take their team’s total to 150. They constructed a solid partnership of 68 runs for the third wicket, and laid a good platform for the lower middle-order
batsmen.
However, Bagai failed to capitalise on the start he got. He gave his wicket away after scoring 39 runs from 55 balls. The fall of Bagai’s wicket saw Canada lose their way.
Jimmy Hansra, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nitish-Kumar-c79751 got out cheaply after scoring 3, 2 and 7 runs respectively. Surkari also lost his wicket at the wrong time after adding 34 runs to the total.
Karl Whatham and Harvir Baidwan tried to rescue their team from trouble, but both batsmen got out after getting starts. Baidwan was dismissed after scoring 17 runs off 14 balls whereas Whatham was the last wicket to fall for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 after scoring 18 runs.
Although Brett Lee gave away plenty of runs in his opening spell, the veteran fast bowler came back strongly in the match. He finished with four wickets while Shaun Tait and Jason Krejza grabbed two wickets each for their team.
