Canada oil reserves/production?

it is second in the world in the total amount of oil that it has but produces about 3 times less of it per year than Russia which has about 3 times less oil. Why is that ?

If it's because a lot of that oil is in the tar sands, 30-40 dollars a barrell makes it profitable to mine it and produce oil from it, oil is almost 150 dollars a barrell why hasn't Canada total production of oil gone up 500-1000 percent ?

At the rate at which they're producing (using and exporting their oil) the US will run out of it in 12 years, Mexico in 10 years, Russia in 17 years (so i'm not sure why they consider themselves a nation with lots of oil). Iran and Saudi Arabia will run out of oil about 120 years before Canada does.

  1. It could be that they are reserving to make it last... sort of along the princaples of streching out your paycheck to last a little longer so you have something when you really need it!

  2. You can thank the Canadian environmentalists for that. They are against exploiting the reserves they have and are against developing the oil sand deposits.

Remember back in the sixties when the draft dodgers went to Canada? Many are still there and they still hold on to the anti-war environmentalist philosophies they had before they went. Consequently, Canada will be hamstrung for some time in that regard.
