Canada placed eighth at the men's world amateur team golf championship 2010
The men's World amateur team golf championship ended on Sunday with France standing at first place and Canada achieving a tie for the eighth place.
The event held in Buenos Aires, Argentina witnessed the winning team to achieve the top position with the help of its 3 top members. The French stars were Johann Lopez-Lazaro, Alexander Levy and Romain Wattel, who carried the team to a winning score of 423.
The team achieved a 4 stroke victory over its other competitors and hence carded a wire to wire 7 under.
Then there was Canada, who went to the top and then came back. The first round of the tournament saw team Canada reach the second place on the leader boards, who then faltered in the event and ended up starting the third round from sixth place. The first
round of the men's World amateur team golf championship was reduced to 54 holes due to bad weather.
The team weakened due to the wrong play of Eugene Wong, Albin Choi and Cam Burke. The players from Vancouver, Toronto and New Hamburg, Ont played a rather disappointing last round and managed to card scores above the par thus 9 over for the team. They sent
the team to a finish of 441 with an 11 over and attained a tied place of eighth place along with two other teams, England and Belgium.
Where Eugene Wong may have faltered a bit, he was also one of the anchors of Team Canada. The golfer shot an even 72 on the Sundays play and finished at a tied fourth place on the leader board. In the individual standings the player from Vancouver collected
a 1 under.
The winning team, France, faced major competition from two teams, United States and Denmark. France led after spending the first and second rounds of the Championship and fought a massive push by team USA for the gold medal. The frontrunner has previously
two wins in its record in 2002 and 1992 where it finished as the runner up and at the third position.
One of its major competitors, Denmark was handed the silver medal for reaching the second place. The team has attained its first medal in the tournament and was trailed by the team United States, which carded a 2 under. Denmark scored a 3 under for second
place and forced the United States to achieve bronze.
