The conditions at Bangalore were perfect for batting, and Australia would have loved to bat first to get some match practice. However, Ricky Ponting wasn’t lucky at the toss, as Canadian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Bagai-c46284 won it and elected to bat first.
John Davison and Hiral Patel started the innings for their team and attacked the Australian pacers. The openers smashed 41 runs in just 3.5 overs, but Davison failed to capitalise on the start. The veteran batsman, who announced his retirement from international
cricket today, got out after adding 14 runs off 12 balls to the total in his final match.
However, Patel wasn’t bothered about the fall of wicket, as he kept on playing aggressive cricket. Canada reached 77 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first 10 overs, courtesy some explosive batting from their young opener.
Patel completed his half-century in just 37 balls, but failed to carry onto make a big one for his team. The teenager got out after scoring a brilliant 54 from 45 balls. He flashed at a short ball outside the off-stump, which took the top edge of his bat
and landed safely into the hands of the third man fielder Mitchell Johnson.
Captain Bagai then joined Zubin Surkari in the middle, and the pair batted sensibly to construct a fifty partnership for the third wicket. Surkari was unbeaten on 23 off 48 balls whereas; Canadian captain was batting on 29 from 46 until half way through
the innings.
The pair will look forward to bat like this for at-least another 10 to 15 overs before they start hitting boundaries in the death overs.
On the other hand, the Kangaroos will be looking to get a few more wickets to exert pressure on the minnows. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 took one wicket each for their team, and Ponting will be expecting some wickets from spinners Jason Krejza and Steve Smith
