Canada up against Mexico in Pan Am Cup junior men’s volleyball tournament
The Canadian junior men’s volleyball team is up against Mexico tonight in the second round-robin game of the Pan Am Cup junior men’s volleyball tournament. After having lost to Chile yesterday, the Canadian team will be looking forward to the match in order
to get some redemption.
A total of eight countries have sent their teams to take part in the tournament that is taking place in Panama City currently.
The match between Canada and Chile was competitive and thrilling as it went on till five long sets. By the time that Chile was done, the final set scores stood at the following points: 15-25, 25-19, 28-26, 17-25 and 15-11.
The first set of the match was won by the Canadian team by quite a margin and it seemed as if they would easily bag the final win as well. However, Chile had other plans and were able to rebound with just about the same force as they had been shoved back
in the opening set of the match. The third set was the most intense but Chile was able to prevail by bagging it. Canada did not give up and brought the match to a decisive fifth set by sealing the deal on the fourth one. However, it was Chile that eventually
grabbed the final set of the match.
The Canadian team finds itself in Group B, along with Chile, Puerto Rico and Mexico. After competing against Mexico today, the Canadian team will be contesting the Puerto Ricans on Friday. The four teams that are in Group A are Honduras, Dominican Republic,
Venezuela as well as the host team of Panama.
The team that is able to get the top position in each of the group will earn itself the prestige of moving onto the semi-finals despite how it performs in the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinal will occur between the teams that have been able to achieve
the second and third positions in each of the groups.
The quarterfinals of the tournament are scheduled to take place on Saturday whereas the semi finals will be held on Sunday, with the final taking place on Monday.
