Canada v Afghanistan – ICC Intercontinental Cup, 2011-2013 – 4th Day’s Recap
Afghanistan 293 & 69/1 (11.3 ov) v
Canada 130 & 231 (f/o) - Afghanistan won by 9 wickets
Afghanistan beat Canada by nine wickets in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Cup, 2011-2013 after giving the spectators three emphatic days of courageous sportsmanship and astounding cricket.
Earlier, Canada began play on the final day of the four-day match with seven wickets down and 176 runs on the board, aiming to bat throughout the day to draw the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khurram-Chohan-c1791 started the day for Canada and both batsmen did not let their side down as they clobbered the Afghan bowlers who kept bolting deliveries at the batsmen early in the day, looking for a breakthrough.
While Afghans sought early wickets, the Canadian batsmen stood defiant, smashing the bowlers all over the park as they kept building on the lead that they had finally managed to take over the belligerent Afghan squad.
Baidwan showing enormous touch with the bat pulverised the bowlers by punishing bad deliveries at will, had the Canadian batsmen shown such talent in the first innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 might not have been in the spot of bother as they failed to avert the follow-on
in the first innings.
Baidwan, who scored only eight runs in the previous innings, looked unstoppable as he timed shot like a pro without leaving a hint of doubt in the mind of spectators that he was playing for an associate team than a permanent member of the International Cricket
Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625).
Meanwhile, on the other end, Chohan provided good support to his fellow batsman as he stood his ground and made sure not to lose his wicket which might have added pressure on Baidwan.
However, on the last delivery of the 82nd over, after playing 74 deliveries, Chohan was dismissed after making 24 runs when he edged a delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Shahzad-c77324. At the time of his
departure, Canada had managed to put 228 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets.
With Chohan back in the pavilion, it was now on Baidwan’s shoulders to score maximum runs to give his side a fighting chance in the remaining part of the day, however, on the penultimate delivery of the 86th over, he made a mistake of edging a
delivery by Dawlat Zadran straight towards http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samiullah-Shenwari-c2430, who took a low catch at third slip to get rid off the batsman.
Baidwan’s wicket wrapped up the Canadian innings, giving a target of 69 runs for Afghanistan to win the match.
The Afghan openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karim-Sadiq-c70298 once again executed their innings superbly by playing sensational shots as they dominated the bowlers.
Zadran after playing a knock of 22 runs off 28 deliveries was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zahid-c98463 Hussain.
Nonetheless, Sadiq alongside Mohammad Shahzad Mohammadi helped Afghanistan win the game as the opening batsman contributed 37 runs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745’s victory while Shahzad scored six runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-Hassan-c1524 from Afghanistan was named as the man of the match for taking ten wickets in the game.
