Canada v Kenya: Henry Osinde and Jimmy Hansra shine as Canada outclasses http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 in ICC World Cup match
Canada sealed their first win of the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2011 at Delhi as they defeated Kenya handsomely by five wickets. This is a huge victory for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 as Kenya is a much more experienced team at the international level and has appeared in all the
World Cups from 1996 till date.
Kenya won the toss on a classic Feroz Shah Kotla track and decided to bat first which is usually the right option in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 where the pitch deteriorates as the game progresses. However, the Kenyan top order failed to capitalise on favourable batting conditions
and the team was tottering at one stage with five wickets down for just 57 runs on the board.
Middle order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tanmay-Mishra-c92705 and seasoned campaigner Thomas Odoyo took the responsibility on their shoulders and made sure that their team avoids embarrassment. Both scored valiant half-centuries which helped Kenya reach a respectable total of 198
runs on the board before being bowled out on the last ball of the innings.
Lanky Canadian fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Henry-Osinde-c62693 proved that he is a world class operator and has the ability to trouble even the best of batsmen. He picked up four wickets for just 26 runs in his 10 overs and was named as the Player of the Match for this stunning
performance.
Chasing a mediocre score to win the match, Canada was off to a bad start and many cricket analysts were expecting that their middle order would succumb to pressure just like it did against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the previous match, but that was not the case.
At one stage Canada had lost three top order wickets for just 48 runs on the board before two experience players in shape of Jimmy Hansra and captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Bagai-c46284 came to their rescue and sealed the first win of the tournament for Canada. Both of them scored
132 runs for the fourth wicket partnership which took the game away from Kenya’s grasp. As a result Canada achieved the target in the 46th over of the innings for the loss of only five wickets.
Hansra remained the top scorer for his team with a well made 70 which came of 99 balls with the help of 7 fours and two massive blows out of the park. His captain played second fiddle to him and scored 64 unbeaten runs off 97 balls in which he struck seven
boundaries.
The Canadian captain appreciated his premier fast bowler’s efforts which made sure that Canada seals the early advantage in the game. Their batting did not fire in the previous games and Bagai looked satisfied with his team’s performance
after a poor start to the World Cup.
"Osinde did a fantastic job first up. We were disappointed with the show in the last few games, but today Jimmy hung around with me. We were fortunate not to have run-rate pressure. Once you were in, you could rotate the strike. In
the end it was just about milking them around. Glad we won this and got it under our belt," he said.
Kenya on the other hand, are having a dreadful tournament and would have been very disappointed with their performance. Kenya reached the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and there were talks in the ICC ranks
to give them the Test status. However, that seems to be a thing of the past.
