Canada v Netherlands - ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers (Day 1) – Match Recap – Netherlands beat Canada by 42 runs
The first day of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 Qualifiers kicked off on March 13, with 8 matches, four between teams from Group A, and four between Group B teams, being played in Dubai, UAE. 16 teams are battling it out for a chance to compete in the World T20

Netherlands won the toss and Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PW-Borren-c2225 opted to bat. The innings got off to a faltering start, as the first wicket fell in the second over – opener Michael Swart was bowled out by Junaid Siddiqui on 3. His partner, Stephan Myburgh (16) managed

http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Kervezee-c1027 (29) established a 33-run stand, which brought the side up to 66 in the 11th over. Most of the remaining lower-order batsmen failed to contribute anything substantial to the total, with skipper Borren run-out
at 11, and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/W-Barresi-c2773 caught out at 3.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harvir-Singh-Baidwan-c61987, who took 3 for 29. In addition, Siddiqui and Cheema also managed to pick
up a wicket apiece.
The Canadian innings showcased mediocre performances by the batsmen – opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Gunasekera-c2231 (9) were unimpressive, and the disappointments continued as Raza-ur-Rehman (1) and Cheema (0) were sent back to the pavilion by Bukhari,
one after the other, leaving their side at a precarious 22 for 3 in the 6th over.
Team Canada appeared to gain some momentum when right-hander http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 Hansra (30) and Baidwan (21) joined forces for the highest partnership of the match- a 48-run stand which got the team up to 74 for 6.
However, after Hansra was caught out by Borren off Ahsan Malik in the 15th over, the remaining batsmen fell in a flurry of wickets, with Netherlands’ slow left-armer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pieter-Marinus-Seelaar-c82273 dismissing the tail-enders - taking 3 for 16. The match ended
with Malik taking out http://www.senore.com/Cricket/H-Osinde-c1518 at 2, as the Dutch managed to cut their opponents off at 93 in the 17th over, securing an emphatic 42-run win for themselves, and gaining 2 match points.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753’ Bukhari won the Player of the Match award, for his unbeaten 28, and 2 for 22.
The next round of qualifying matches are scheduled for March 14, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Papua-New-Guinea-c41002 at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai.
