Canada versus Panama – Gold Cup: Second half review
After the first half ended with a score line of nil all, Canada resumed the second half just as the way that they had closed the first one by maintaining a monopoly over ball possession. However their frustration was evident when
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joshua-c19541 Simpson went into the referee’s book for protesting against the match official’s decision. Soon after Terry Dunfield also followed his team mate into the referee’s book as he was shown a yellow card for a poor tackle on Dwayne DeRosario in the 58th
minute.
In the 59th minute disaster struck for Canada when DeRosario was pulled down to the ground inside the Panama penalty area. Referee spotted this infringement on Canada’s striker and promptly awarded the Canucks a penalty
kick. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eybir-Bonaga-c13054 was booked in the aftermath of the referee’s decision as he was the defender who was responsible for pulling on DeRosario’s shirt in the first place.
Nonetheless, Dwayne DeRosario stepped up to take the penalty kick and made no mistake with his spot kick as he slipped it past the Panama goalkeeper with relative ease. With the score line 1-0, Panama rose to the occasion and stepped
up their offensive efforts. In the 62nd minute, Blas Antonio Pérez was shown a yellow card by the referee as he committed a rash sliding tackle against Terry Dunfield near the half way line.
In the 71st minute, Simpson had a good chance to add to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Canada-c748’s lead but his grounded effort failed to trouble Panama’s goalkeeper as the score line remained at one nil, in favour of the Canucks. Soon after Panama opted
to make a substitution as Luis Renteria was taken off the field of play and replaced by Luis Carlos Tejada Hansell.
Canada responded with a substitution of their own in the 72nd minute as Simpson was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Panama-c2978 made their last change of the encounter as Eybir Bonaga was replaced
in the Central American nation’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aníbal-c6130 Godoy.
Panama pushed onwards in the end to get a late equalizing goal and they were successful in their attempts to do so as Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tejada Hansell pounced on a loose ball inside the Canadian penalty area following a goal-mouth scramble
to clear the ball away in the Canadian defence. It was a typical poachers strike by Hansell who made no mistake with his finish in the 91st minute of the match after the referee had added on three minutes of additional time.
Regardless, the match soon came to an end after Hansell’s strike with both the teams deadlocked at nil all. It was a fantastic encounter for the neutrals which was capped off by Panama’s late but thrilling equalizer. Canada’s only
goal of the encounter came through a penalty kick in the second half which was taken by Dwayne DeRosario.
