Canada vs. Australia: First innings - Part 2 – ICC World Cup 2011 Recap
Canada was 157 for 4 after 30 overs at a rate of 5.23 runs per over. That was as good as it got in terms of partnerships for the Canadians, as they lost wickets on a regular basis.
Surkari joined his team-mates in the stands in the next over after he was clean bowled by Tait for 34 runs. Nitish Kumar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Cheema-c2328 came to the crease for Canada, as they looked to put in a good performance and get some much needed runs on the board.
Neither stayed for long as Cheema was clean bowled by Brett Lee for 2 runs. A shrewd change of pace by Lee confused the batsman who was unable to time his shot well, as the ball made contact with the middle-wicket. Canada were now 161 for 6.
Karl Whatham came in for the Canadians and was lucky to still be on the pitch for the 36th over, as he was dropped by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 who stood at wide slip. Australia could have had Whatham out for a duck, but their fielding was not their stellar best.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nitish-Kumar-c79751 was the next to depart after failing to deal with the mounting pressure from the Australian bowlers. Unable to get his innings going, Kumar went for a big shot hitting the ball straight towards the stands. His connection was not the best, as
Tait, the fielder at mid off took the catch. Johnson celebrated his first wicket of the match.
The crowd watched excitedly as Harvir Baidwan emerged from the pavilion. The Canadians were, despite a dip in the run rate, playing their shots and Baidwan was no different. Scoring 13 runs from 12 balls his strike rate was over a hundred, but his innings
was not a significant one on the scorecard.
Baidwan got caught by Pointing after coming down the track to attack the ball and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 was down to their last two wickets, as Krejza completed his 10 overs with his second wicket.
Fan favourite Balaji Rao padded up in the pavilion and made his way out to the ground as Baidwan was caught. In terms of entertainment, Rao disappointed, as he got out for five runs when he tried to play a cheeky shot and was clean bowled by Lee to bring
an end to the 44th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382 sent Whatham back to the stands in similar fashion after he bowled the Canadian in the 46th over to bring Canada’s innings to a close.
The Canadians amassed a total of 211 runs in a batting performance they will not be too disappointed with. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 will have to be careful not to be complacent, as they looked to chase down the runs.
