http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 vs. New Zealand: First innings - Part 1 - ICC World Cup 2011 Recap
New Zealand hammered the Canadians all over the stadium at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Bagai-c46284 won the toss and opted to send the Kiwis in to bat, a
decision Ross Taylor was not too disappointed with.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Henry-Osinde-c62693, with the former bowling two wides in the first over. The Kiwis’ batsmen spent the next few overs getting settled in.
Their first boundary came in the sixth over, as McCullum blasted a poor delivery from Osinde, the first of many in the New Zealand innings, as Guptill contributed with his first boundary off the last ball of the same over.
The Kiwis’ batsmen went on and scored another nine runs off Khurram before Harvir Baidwan was brought into the bowling attack, as Osinde changed ends to continue his spell.
Baidwan, went for 10 runs in his first over including a huge six over long off, as McCullum started taking the game to the Canadians. His persistence paid off though, as Bagai reacted well when Guptill edged the ball, marking the end of a useful 53 run opening
partnership.
McCullum then destroyed Osinde in the 11th over scoring 14 runs that included three boundaries. Jesse Ryder kept up the onslaught when he scored 12 runs off the next over bringing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s run rate up to 6.58 runs per over.
McCullum went on to reach his half century in the 13th over from just 38 balls. Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Cheema-c2328 was brought in to replace Osinde for the now worried Canadians.
Balaji Rao was handed the ball in the 17th over, and Davison was introduced in the 20th as they managed to slow down the New Zealand run rate to 5.13 runs per over. Ryder and McCullum both looked strong at the crease, as they looked
to make sure their side had wickets for the closing overs.
Ryder gifted his wicket to the Canadians, as his weak chip sent the ball right into Osinde’s grateful hands and Davison celebrated his first wicket. Ryder made a useful 38 runs, though his reaction to getting out, showed he wasted an opportunity for a bigger
score.
The Kiwis’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 was the next man in, as Osinde took over bowling duties from Rao. They kept the scoreboard ticking and maintained the run rate at around the five runs per over mark with Brendon McCullum becoming an increasingly worrying figure
for the Canadians.
