Brendon McCullum completed his century in the 36th over which prompted the Kiwis to opt for the batting power-play in the next over. Baidwan then repaid his captain’s faith in handing him the ball, as he sent Brendon back to the pavilion after
the batsmen was caught by Gunasekera at extra cover.
The Canadians must have been sick of hearing the name McCullum by now, but when Nathan McCullum made his way to the crease it had to be a demoralizing sight. Rizwan came into bowl and gave away seven runs as Taylor began freeing his arms.
Four sixes and a boundary later http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 had his half century, much to the dismay of Baidwan. The Kiwis’ skipper was on a mission, as he continued his aggressive batting.
Balaji had the final word, as he sent Taylor packing with a well flighted delivery, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 total to 255 runs by the end of the 41st over.
Kane Williamson, the new man in, was lucky when Davison dropped him at one run. His batting partner was not as lucky, as in the next over Balaji made sure that Nathan McCullum would have no further part to play when he was caught and bowled for 10 runs.
Balaji was unlucky in the 45th over when Baidwan missed a simple catch that ended up crossing the boundary for four. Balaji was far from amused.
Scott Styris, the New Zealand veteran, picked up where Taylor left off and sent the ball flying first over the long on boundary and then four balls later, over mid-wicket for two very useful sixes. Hansra was running out of ideas, as New Zealand’s run rate
climbed to 6.53 runs per over.
Things got worse for the Canadians, as Baidwan was hit for another four boundaries in an over where he went for 19 runs. He did redeem himself on the last ball, but Davison’s catch meant the end of Styris’ explosive innings. New Zealand had already dealt
heavy damage with the score now at 318 for 6.
The Kiwis showed no mercy as Khurram was hit for nine runs in the 49th over, before an eventful last over. Franklin faced Rizwan, who after being smashed for three sixes and two fours had to be replaced with Baidwan, as the former had bowled two
beamers.
Franklin’s knock of 31 runs from 8 balls was the last thing Canada needed, as they look to chase a total of 359 runs from the allotted 50 overs.
