Canada vs. Russia?

First of all, I am Finnish, and although I don't like Russia for beating Finland, I am so glad Canada lost. The canadians talk sooo much smack the whole time and in the end they get beat in their own game. Summit series? HA. Gimme a break. The canadians can't stop Kovalchuk.

Spoken like a true sportsman!!!!!  I am sorry that Canada lost but happy that it was a good hockey game.  The only thing I am unhappy with, or rather totally disagree with, is the rule calling for a delay of game penalty when the puck is put over the boards.  It really is a poor rule that in my opinion tarnished the final result of a good hockey game.

Well, officiating in favor of CA in first period was worst I saw in a while... Canadians don't need that. Because of that I was truelly glad that Russians won. They showed their quality despite having refs on other side.

Haha are you kidding me??? Whatever we lost i am canadian i don't really care. If we had all of our super stars playing we would have owned. For example Brodeur in net, Iginla and Phaneuf in  the lineup. We also still have like crosby playing and so on. In the 2010 olympics we are gonna win gold for sure. I can bet all my money on that. Did you see Kovalchuk crying. That's how big it was to the russians.

I suppose it is rather easy to post mindless drivel like this, but I'll respond accordingly as one of those (alleged) Canadians who talk smack the whole time.

First off, all congratulations due to the Russian team.  They played well, and came back from being down 3-1 and won in overtime.  They deservedly won, and should be congratulated.

Second, the delay of game rule is a well-intended rule (and in this case, was the correct call) that has punished people at the worst possible time (see Buffalo 2006) for unintentionally sending the puck over the glass.  But, a rule is a rule.  

The Summit Series of 1972 was over 35 years ago.  The one last summer was a joke...Canada won 7 of the 8 games (the other a tie).  

Going into the game yesterday, Canada had won...what, 15 straight WC games?  Canada has won...how many WJC titles on the trot?  Let's face it...if Canada loses...that's your news story.  

Look at the makeup of the NHL; it's still a majority made up of Canadians.  No European captain has ever won the Stanley Cup (in fact, only one non-Canadian).  This isn't false bravado...it's fact.  

If you look at Canada's international record over the last six years, it's pretty impressive (1 Olympic Gold, 5 WJC titles, 2 WC, a 2004 World Cup).

come talk to us when you guys can beat Canada. I think Canada beat you at the world cup, world juniors.  Whats Finlands greatest hockey achievement, losing in the finals at the olympics? good job, come chirp Canada when you guys can actually win a gold medal. What more do you want, a cheap penalty in overtime and giving elite-scorers able to walk in, and pick a corner. Kovalchuk could do that 9/10 times every day of the week. Great shot by Kovalchuk, but Russia was due, and you cant win them all, just win more than the Finns tho.
