Canada wins three-match series against Ireland – Field Hockey Update
In a stunning move, the field hockey team of Canada has been emerged victorious over Ireland in the three-match series, as the third test was ended with another draw on April 21.
It was another chilly day, when Ireland faced Canada in the final game in the absence of scores of people.
Both teams commenced the final game in quite an aggressive way and started offensive attacks from the very start. With five minutes into the first half, the Irish team obtained their first penalty corner of the day from the foul of Scott Tupper. The Irish
player executed an impressive drag-flick, but it was blocked in the hands of Toni Kindler. It was a brilliant performance by Kindler during the game.
In the very next minute, Canada came back and generated their first penalty corner of the game. Scott Tupper delivered a powerful scooping hit but to no avail. The ball unfortunately hit the goal posts and was out of the circle. It was a missed opportunity
for Canada.
In the remaining time period of the first half of play, the defensive line of Canada comprised of Hudson Stewart, Adam Froese, Gordie Johnston and Scott Tupper displayed outstanding game play and saved plenty of strikes from the other side.
An Irish player unleashed a strong drive into the goal which was deflected in the hands of Kindler. However, the ball remained in the danger zone and Ireland earned another penalty corner. Kindler easily saved the direct hit creating pressure on the opposite
side. The first half of play concluded nil-nil, as it was in the previous match.
The two squads mounted many brilliant strikes in the defensive circles of either team but the custodians were not sitting inactively.
Matt Guest, another Canadian player carried out the ball into the defensive circle and stuck a powerful shot, but it was deflected by the feet of an Irish defender. Ireland secured another penalty corner but to no avail. Simply, the well-placed hit went
wide. By the end of the second period, both sides were trying hard to get a go-ahead goal, but disappointingly both missed a few goal-scoring chances. Following an end-to-end play, the second half of the game was concluded like the first with a 0-0 tie.
With conclusion of the final game, Canada won the series with two brilliant ties and one amazing victory. Ireland and Canada faced each other nineteen times of which Canada won more matches. Both teams have a competitive history of battling it out on the
field.
Canada will leave for Edinburgh, city of Scotland to contest another three-test series against the Scottish team. The exciting series will continue from April 22 to 25.
