Jimmy Hansra, the captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748’s national cricket team, has resigned from his post, Cricket Canada confirmed this Wednesday.
"Jimmy conveyed to us after the Caribbean T20 tournament his wish to stand down from the captaincy," affirmed Vimal Hardat, vice-president of Cricket Canada. “While we asked him to reconsider, we accept his decision and look forward to his future contributions
to our organization.”
He added that Hansra was an outstanding player and has been a top-class captain, while further wishing him the best for future endeavours on the board’s behalf.
The 27-year-old, who made his debut in a First-Class match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, Hansra’s performances were
noticeable, where he was Canada’s second top-scorer, allowing him to emerge as an obvious candidate to lead the side after wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Bagai-c869 stepped down.
However, under his captaincy, the national team did not manage to register any remarkable wins. They gave a poor performance at the Caribbean T20, 2011/12, where the team failed to win even a single match, losing particularly dismally to Trinidad & Tobago
at Bridgetown on January 19, 2012, and prompting the captain to step down.
“I would like to thank the organization for giving me the opportunity to lead Canada,” Hansra said. “In my short stay as captain, I have thoroughly enjoyed the role and have learned a lot in a very short time.”
Regarding his future plans, the all-rounder was optimistic, and keen to stay a part of the team.
“(…) I believe I need to focus on my game more and I can offer more to Cricket Canada as a player at this moment than a Captain,” he said, adding that he aimed to work on his batting, and hoped to help the team qualify for the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup,
2012.
The right-hander is included in Canada’s line-up for the upcoming World Twenty20 qualifiers, and the team will be playing their first match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 13. Cricket Canada is expected to name
a replacement soon.
