Canada’s national Women’s hockey squad has been announced for the Pan American Games
Canada’s Women’s national hockey team has been announced for the upcoming event of Pan American Games which will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, from October 14 to 30. This will be the real chance for the Canadians to confirm their place in the 2012 Olympic
Games which will be held in London, England, in July 2012.
The Canadians will enter the tournament as a fourth ranked Pan American team while they had captured the fifth place in the 2007 Pan American Games that were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The head coach, Louis Mendonca has a lot of expectations and is hopeful for a better performance from his athletes who have been preparing themselves for the event by playing a number of games against some of the Pan American oppositions.
“Our goal is simple: to reach the podium. We are well prepared in all areas to meet our objective,” Louis Mendonca, the head coach of the Canadian national Women’s hockey team, stated about their objectives and targets in the Pan American games.
The team seems to be blend of youth and the experience as there are a number of youngsters along with some of the seasoned players. Captain Katie Baker, Azelia Liu and Stephanie Jameson are the only three athletes who participated in the 2007 Pan American
Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while the other players are quite young full of energy and enthusiasm.
“We have a young team. However, in the past three years, these young players have had a considerable amount of experience, often stepping into crucial roles on the field,” Katie Baker, the captain of the Canadian women’s hockey team, shared her views about
the team selection and the players.
“The results are evident in our health, fitness and team cohesion. The coaching staff provides the tactical training, and then it is our job to put it all together on the field,” Katie Baker further added to her comments.
The Canadian national team for the Pan American games includes the following athletes:
Abigail Raye, Diana Roemer, Azelia Liu, Danielle Hennig, Hannah Haughn, Jessalyn Walkey, Kate Gillis, Katie Baker, Kaitlyn Williams, Stephanie Jameson, Kristine Wishart, Natalie Sourisseau, Samantha Smith, Sara McManus, Thea Culley and Tyla Flexman.
Meanwhile the reserve players consist of Bea Francisco, Cailie O'Hara, Brienne Stairs, Maddie Secco, Marian Dickinson and Poonam Sandhu. The other staff includes Sheena Scott the team manager, Louis Mendonca the head coach, Paul Bundy the coach, Noreen Ortilla
athletic therapist and John Desouza video analyst.
