Canada’s young tennis star Milos Raonic loses to Victor Hanescu
The professional tennis player from Canada, Milos Raonic was defeated by Victor Hanescu in his first round match of the Rogers Cup 2010 on Monday. However, instead of showing any signs of anger and disappointment, the nineteen-year old seemed content.
The fifty-fourth ranked tennis player thrashed the Canadian in straight sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4. The two-hundred and seventeenth ranked tennis player, Milos Raonic commented that, “I didn’t play bad at all considering the margin of my loss”, after the match. “In my view, I am not that far from reaching the top hundred spot soon”, said Raonic, who grew up in the city of Thornhill, Ontario.
“I think I am just a couple of matches away and soon I will be able to fight against the top ranked players. All I need to do at the moment is to play with accuracy and consistency and soon things will automatically settle down for me”, said the Canadian youngster, Raonic.
“In my view, what is important for me at the moment is to carry on with the way I am playing and keep on working hard and I don’t think reaching the top hundred rankings is that far away from me”, he added.
There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Raonic’s game has improved over the recent past which has boosted his confidence level to a great extent as well.
Greg Rusedski, who reached as high as number forty-one in the world is so far the highest ranked tennis player from Canada. However, the Montreal born contender represented Britain on the tour. However, as far as Raonic is concerned, it would be more practical at the moment to think about the top hundred ATP rankings instead.
Canadian fans expect their current top ranked Canadian tennis player, Peter Polansky to improve his game as well as his ATP world rankings. Back in 2009, some Canadian players did find the limelight including Aleksandra Wozniak, who jumped all the way to number twenty-one in the world as well as Frank Dancevic, who improved his world rankings to number sixty-five back in 2007. It clearly reflects that Canadians are not lacking, as far as tennis talent and flair is concerned, beyond any measure of speculations. However, without any question, a lot has to be done yet.
The six-foot-five Raonic, while commenting on his game said, “There are certain areas that I need to work and improve such as my mental strength as well as game plan. I think I have to work the most on this aspect of my game. Moreover, in order to improve my ATP world rankings I have to take care of my fitness level and build my capacity to play on the court for longer hours”, he added.
Undoubtedly, stamina is going to be a strong factor in Raonic’s improvement. Jumping from two- hundred and seven in the world to the top hundred won’t happen that easily. He will have to work really hard and put in huge efforts.
The Vice President of Tennis Canada, McDadi while commenting on Raonic’s recent form and shape commented that, “his next step should definitely be to reach the top hundred spot so that he can participate in the major championships. There is a huge difference in his game in contrast to his last year’s form and he definitely has the potential to be one of the top ranked Canadian tennis players without any question”, said McDadi.
