Question:

Canadian Automobile Association - Worthwhile for a commuter?

I drive 200km+ daily (including weekends), mostly down a major highway in a well populated area. I keep a spare key in my wallet, I've never run out of gas, and I live close to friends and family (so its unlikely I'll ever be stranded without someone I can call). So I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to get CAA? I'm thinking that it would be worthwhile because I'm just on the road so much, but then again is there anything CAA offers that I couldn't just pay for in the unlikely event I need help?

  1. I work for AAA down here in America. While I cant tell you the benefits of the CAA, there are many benefits that we have.

Since you drive so much, I would invest in it. You never know what could happen.

The cost of towing a car is expensive. Shops here charge anywhere from $50. on up for a tow. A one year mbrship with AAA is $53.00 so if I use one tow, I have already stretched my dollar in my favor!

Plus what if you get a flat tire? What about a jumpstart?

AAA sells and installs batteries, offers discount to many resturants and businesses just for showing the AAA card...free maps and tourbooks...plus a bunch more!

You should check them out online or call and find out what benefits they offer. It's like insurance. You will probably never use it but it is always there when you need it.

  2. I have it and I get discounts on maps and other things they offer. I've also had to use their towing service (which is bloody expensive when you need it) and had to get my car boosted in extremely cold weather (I live in Edmonton). It's also valid if you're riding in a friend's car and their car breaks down.
