Canadian Grand Prix: Formula 1 teams to battle for Montreal glory, but who will prevail?
The Canadian Grand Prix is all set to start at the Montreal track from the Friday Free Practice sessions on June 10, 2011.
However, the question remains which Formula 1 team is better prepared to take on the semi-street track of Montreal?
If we look at the points table, it is evident that the energy drinks company, Red Bull, has taken on all the Formula 1 veterans and is running victorious so far in the 2011 season.
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel does not seem to have a match in the drivers’ championship battle as his closet rival of McLaren-Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, is trailing him by 53 points.
So far, the Red Bull team has outthought their rivals in the development grounds and on strategic grounds. The Red Bull team is only seven years old in the Formula 1 arena and already they are the team to watch out for.
However, from the last few years it is evident that the Formula 1 season always gets into a tight squeeze when one or two top rank teams start missing a few tricks.
Although Red Bull have started the season in the most remarkable fashion, still McLaren and the Ferrari team have, slowly but steadily, covered up a huge gap in pace and will be fancying their chances in the Montreal race.
Ferrari have always been the slow starters in the championship battle but soon they catch up fast. In the 2010 season, Ferrari started slowly and before stepping into the last race in Abu Dhabi, they were the championship leaders.
For the 2011 season, they do not seem to really challenge the Red Bull team as their drivers are not giving one hundred percent performances. Fernando Alonso is doing everything to be in the top three drivers of the grid while Felipe Massa is struggling
to even finish the race.
The Brazilian driver did not finish the last two races and compromised Ferrari’s chances to go for the championship.
McLaren, however, is the team which is firing from both ends. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are right behind the race leaders in almost every encounter of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Apart from the visible top three contenders of the championship in the 2011 season, there are some teams who can surprise in Montreal.
Renault will be the one team who can finish on podium as they are very strong on street circuits like Montreal. They will be looking to grab some points and remain as the number four team of the contest as they have already edged past the Mercedes team in
the first six races of the season.
Mercedes have shown potential but have failed to show consistency and are struggling to challenge the top ranked teams. Although Mercedes have seven-time world champion as a driver but still they do not seem to do any better.
Nevertheless, the Canadian race will be the one to remember as the 2011 changes are supposed to thrill the race on Sunday.
Along with Pirelli tyres, the Drag Reduction System and Kinetic Energy Recovery System are all set to fire up the Montreal track and it will be interesting to see which team comes out on top.
