Canadian International Challenge: Eric Pang penetrates into Men’s Singles final – Badminton news
Netherland’s Eric Pang maintained his inspiring run and stormed into Men’s Singles final after crushing Denmark’s Christian Lind Thomsen in semi-final clash of 2013 Ottawa Canadian International Challenge in Canada, on Friday, June 28.
The impressive Eric, who is top seed in main draw of this tournament, played with incredible confidence and aggression. He did not face any trouble in defeating his lower ranked Danish opponent in just 35 minutes.
Dutch man was in wonderful form as he did not let his opponent to get a good flow at any stage. He remained on driving seat in this whole competition and won it with a comfortable 21-15 and 21-15 score on the board.
On the other hand, the fifth seeded Thomsen could not cope up with the tricky play of his opponent. He failed to place his shots in right areas and eventually crashed out by losing this semi-final encounter in straight games with a reasonable score.
In the first set, both shuttlers employed their experience and played positive badminton at the initial stage. They continued showing their elite class and entertained the crowd with their attacking play.
The score progressed closely from both sides at the opening stage. However, it was the Dutch shuttler who geared up his speed and managed to set up a reasonable gap until the break.
After the interval, the lower ranked Danish man tried to put up strong show but failed to narrow the gap as his opponent was in complete control.
Meanwhile, Eric continued his superior run in the arena as he did not lose his focus at any stage and eventually grabbed the opening game with a controlled margin of 21-15.
In the second game, Eric remained in complete command as he did not let his challenger find a good rhythm. Until the one-minute interval, he was leading the score board with a reasonable margin.
After the break, the top seeded Eric maintained his power play without reducing the pace of rallies and won the second game with a wonderful margin of 21-15 and emerged as the winner in this straight-set semi-final clash in a convincing fashion.
