Canadian International Challenge: Joachim Persson moves to semi-final stage – Badminton news
Denmark’s talented player, Joachim Persson, continued his highly elevated performance and secured his place in Men’s Singles semi-final at the 2013 Ottawa Canadian International Challenge, which is in progress in Canada.
In the quarter-final contest, the third seeded Joachim had to work really hard to overpower his lower ranked opponent, Bjorn Seguin of USA, on Thursday, June 27.
The experienced Danish shuttler employed everything he possessed in the opening game and won it with a dramatic margin. However, he found a good flow in the following set and secured a close victory with a 25-23 and 21-15 score on the board.
On the contrary, the seventh seeded Bjorn surprised everyone by playing top quality badminton in the first game but failed to maintain his good rhythm in the following set and lost the match with a respectable total.
Right from the starting points of this quarter-final clash, both men grabbed the attention of the whole crowd by playing attaching badminton from all areas of the court.
They did not let each other to build a considerable lead at the initial stage. They did not miss any chance push each other everywhere making the match more thrilling for the crowd.
The match progressed in the similar attaching manner and both contestants remained close to each other on score board until the end of first half in the starting game.
After the mid-game interval, Joachim tried to create gap by injecting variations in his shots but failed to break the flow of his lower ranked opponent who was aggressive and positive in his play.
The score reached at the crucial stage of 20-20 but none of the participants showed any sign of confusion and they continued playing top quality badminton and reached at 23-23.
However, it was Joachim who controlled his nerves at this breath-taking stage. He played composed badminton and remained successful in winning the set with a close 25-23 score on the board.
In the following set, the higher ranked Danish man played to his maximum potential and remained successful in setting up a reasonable gap on the board until the one-minute break.
In the concluding part, Joachim continued showing his elevated run without leaving any room for his rival. He played positive badminton all the way and won the game with a comfortable total of 21-15.
