Canadian Kane performs well in Dubai
Canadian Lorie Kane exhibited an electrifying performance at the season-ending Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2012, shooting an overall 277 to finish tied for the 5th position along with two other contenders.
It was scene of a tough battle at the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, which saw most of the top-ranked LET (Ladies European Tour) stars contend for prestigious the title.
Kane, who was not among the big names for the four-day event, did much better as she looked eager to prove her worth on the LET this time.
Although she could not clinch a victory, finishing tied for the fifth position was something she is clearly proud of.
Kane got off to a solid start that saw her shoot a 68. She faced some challenge on some holes, but looked calm and collected most of the day on Wednesday.
In the second round, the Canadian star faltered a little as she posted a 70. But still, she remained in the limelight throughout the day, making perfect putts on most of the holes.
She once again boosted her position on the leaderboard after she carded a 68 in the third round.
Chinese Shanshan Feng has proved that she is going to be the strongest contender on the LET. Coming on strong in the season-ending battle, Feng maintained her grip on the game right from the start of the match on Wednesday.
The Chinese star spoke to the media at the end of the tournament on Saturday, saying she is more than thrilled that she has been able to prove her mettle on the LET as well.
Feng is one of the rising stars on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour. She won her first title—a major one—at the LPGA Championship in June 2012.
“I'm very happy because I had the lead for three days in a row and I don't want to give it away on the last day. I think I tried my best, but still, I won. So here I am,” Feng said.
Another star performer was Carlota Ciganda of Spain, who won the ISPS Handa Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year title. Ciganda remained in contention till the final moment of the tournament, finishing tied for the 10th position after she shot a 279.
