Canadian Lorie Kane eyes title at Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012
Canadian Lorie Kane appears to have set her sights on the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, scheduled to be held from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Canada, with a strong field featuring top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
Kane is one of most experienced Canadian golfers in the published field, as she has shown in the past that she can give a tough time to rivals. Having racked up six professional titles, the Canadian giant is being regarded as one of the most battle-hardened contenders for the Manulife LPGA Classic 2012.
Analysts said that Kane may not be in her best form these days, but she has been training hard on the practice range in order to get back on track.
Of the six triumphs the 47-year-old star has recorded so far, four wins were made on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Speaking to the media during her interview, Kane said that she is determined not to surrender to her nerve at Waterloo and will try to put her best foot forward. She admitted that the published field is fearsome, but she plans to enter the course with a completely different approach.
Although winless since 2002, when she won the Hyundai Team Matches, the veteran prodigy is now eager to start winning again.
Kane pointed out that being winless for years caused her to lose some confidence, but she is keeping her hopes alive for this year’s Manulife Financial LPGA Classic.
Explaining how she has been coping with all the attention due to the event being played in her country, the golfing sensation said that she has been enjoying her game, and expects plenty of support from the local crowd.
She went on to say that she is fully fit, and she no longer has to worry about muscular pain that had been troubling her before.
"I've only been 16 years on Tour, so to me that's not a full gamut," said Kane. "I'm having fun. I'm probably having more fun now than I've ever had, so it's exciting to see. Physically, I don't think I've been in better shape, very pain‑free".
However, the experienced golfer seemed to put her complete trust in young Canadians. "These younger players, as Canadians, we can win," said Kane.
