Canadian Masters Badminton Championships: Damaris Brix, Reesa Valenta tread into quarter-final round
Women’s Doubles team Damaris Brix-Reesa Valenta of Canada danced their way to quarter-finals of Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships as they intercepted Sheri Parks-Tami Parks in first round on May 8, 2012.
Though, this pre quarter-final tussle lasted for three gruelling sets but concluded in just 38 minutes as both contenders swiftly registered final results of 17-21, 21-7 and 21-16.
The duo of Damaris Brix and Reesa Valenta cruised to a 2-1 victory by grabbing last two games while it was a low key performance by their compatriots Sheri Parks and Tami Parks who frittered away their early advantage in the end.
In opening set of the match, Sheri-Tami were bit confused earlier as they found little trouble in reading their rival’s game but they gradually grew in confidence and pocketed some valuable points.
They attacked in right areas and pushed their opponents on back foot by entering a decent total of 11 points before the mid-game break was announced.
After the interval, they got off track for a short period of time as the opposing team of Damaris Brix-Reesa Valenta recovered from a huge deficit and narrowed the gap with some consecutive points.
However, Sheri-Tami stopped their competitor’s expedition by taking control of the rallies in final stage. They earned first match point with a distinctive margin of 21-17.
The second set of match saw them completely out of touch as the twosome of Damaris Brix and Reesa Valenta outclassed them technically and tactically.
Their backlash was so strong that their rival’s defence could not last for much long. They made their intention clear from the start by showing off some clean hitting.
Damaris-Reesa enjoyed the upper hand throughout this crucial set and stole the limelight with a significant total of 21-7.
In the third and final set, both Canadian couples tried to ensure their presence in top eight teams of the tournament and they put decent show of court craft.
The Women’s Doubles experts Sheri-Tami gained a comfortable lead in the start but they did not get very far as the opposing team Damaris-Reesa swept the board with 21-16 score and surged into quarter-final round.
