Canadian Masters Badminton Championships: Jose Arsenault beats David Pealow in first round
Men’s Singles shuttler Jose Arsenault of Canada had a perfect start in Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships as he overwhelmed David Pealow in the first round on May 8, 2012.
The opening match lasted for 50 minutes and both compatriots exhibited premium class badminton before giving out final results of 19-21, 22-20 and 23-21.
Jose Arsenault proved his supremacy in this nerve-racking battle to setup a quarter-final clash with top ranked shuttler of the event Terry Downton.
Meanwhile, the losing contender David Pealow also earned big round of applause from the audience for putting great resistance throughout three games.
In first set of the match, both shuttlers showed their intentions by taking game to next level. They displayed great fighting skills and kept chasing each other until game point situation.
Jose Arsenault found no trouble in the start and made swift progress by playing fast badminton. He maintained a slight advantage over his challenger before the mid-game break was announced.
After the interval he committed some fatal mistakes which triggered collapse as the opposing shuttler did not miss this chance and got into an authoritative position.
David Pealow bagged first match point by registering a decent margin of 21-19 and put his challenger under great pressure.
However, Jose Arsenault did not lose his nerves after this loss and managed to stay in the match by winning the next game. This time he played positive badminton and thrashed his competitor despite of a match point deficit.
The Canadian shuttler opened first half of the set with an immediate lead and continued to dominate his rival all the way to interval.
Later part of the game saw suppressed shuttler David Pealow bouncing back as he narrowed the gap with some continuous rallies and reached close to seal a straight-set victory.
This cliff-hanging tussle got resolved in Jose’s favour who clinched crucial set with a tight yet decisive total of 22-20.
Now both players were standing equal with 1-1 match score and they put all they had to exceed the opponent in third set.
The match kept swinging between them until last moments but Jose Arsenault tipped the scale in his favour by registering concluding margin of 23-21.
