Canadian Masters: David Murray stuns Michael Bilida in Men’s Singles quarter-final – Badminton news
USA’s David Murray showed his impressive performance to surge into Men’s Singles semi-final after giving a shocking treatment to his higher ranked challenger Michael Bilida of Canada in quarter-final clash at 2012 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships
on Wednesday, May 9, in Canada.
The un-seeded Murray was in his prime form when he toppled Bilida who was top seed in Men’s Singles category in Canadian Masters.
The lower ranked shuttler worked really hard and remained successful in beating his local opponent in three games with a dramatically tight margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Bilida could not continue his winning run in the quarter-final contest where he could not overpower his foreign opponent and lost the match in rubber games in 42 minutes.
In the first game, it was Murray who completely dominated the arena by playing remarkable badminton as he did not show any mercy to his rival and set up an early lead on the board.
In the meanwhile, Bilida tried to stop the aggression of Murray but failed as the USA shuttler was on a different level.
Until the break in opening set, Murray was moving far ahead and took an impressive lead on the board.
After the break, Murray remained on course without slowing down the pace and won the set with a one-sided margin of 21-10.
In the second game, it was the local shuttler and top seed Bilida who took over the control of rallies and remained successful in taking a reasonable lead on the board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Murray changed his tactics and played attacking badminton but could not destroy the defence of his opponent and lost the game with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both men showed their wonderful skills and entertained the crowd by playing positive badminton.
Until the mid-game interval in third set, both shuttlers were progressing at the same speed.
After the break, the top seeded Canadian played with precision but failed to create gaps in his rival’s court.
The score reached at 20-20 when Murray showed his class as he played positive and smart badminton in all areas and took the set with a tight score of 22-20.
Murray won this thrilling three-set battle against Bilida in 42 minutes with a 21-10, 17-21 and 22-20 score on the board.
