Canadian Masters: Imre Bereknyei thrashes Michel Guilbert in Men’s Singles first round
USA’s Imre Bereknyei displayed a gutsy performance in Men’s Singles first round when he thrashed Canada’s Michel Guilbert in a fascinating fashion at the 2012 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships in Canada, on Tuesday, May 8.
Bereknyei, who is the second seed in Men’s Singles draw of Canadian Masters, stunned the crowd by playing remarkable badminton when he did not show any mercy to Guilbert and won the contest in a one-sided manner.
The higher ranked Bereknyei did not lose any set to his lower ranked Canadian opponent and won the battle in straight game with a comprehensive margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Guilbert could not match the speed and skills of his higher ranked foreign opponent and crashed out in the opening round without showing strong resistance.
Right from the initial stage of first game, Bereknyei played dominating badminton by controlling the pace and he dictated his local opponent in all areas of the court.
In the meanwhile, Guilbert tried to show his brilliance by increasing his speed but he completely failed to live up to expectations as he could not match the pace of rallies.
Bereknyei remained on track and took a remarkable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Bereknyei did not drop his speed and kept his lower ranked opponent moving around in the court.
He spared no chance for Guilbert to catch up the score at any stage and took the set with a tremendous 21-7 score on the board.
In the second game, the Canadian shuttler tried to play positive badminton in opening rallies but he failed to create gap in his opponent’s court and remained struggling behind on the board.
On the other hand, Bereknyei was consistent in his shot placement and he did not face any interruption until the one-minute break when he was miles ahead on the board.
After the break, Bereknyei continued playing positive badminton without showing any sign of fatigue and bagged the game with a superb score of 21-7.
Bereknyei won his first-round contest in a sensational manner with a stunning 21-7 and 21-7 score on the board.
