Canadian Masters: Jim Carnwath topples Roger Kerby to secure his berth at semi-final stage
Canada’s Jim Carnwath showed his class in Men’s Singles quarter-final when he easily ousted his team-mate Roger Kerby at the 2012 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships in Canada, on Tuesday, May 8.
Carnwath, who has been seeded at number one in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, was one class above his compatriot in all aspects and he easily won the contest without facing any trouble.
The top seeded Carnwath was in prime form as he did not let his rival to put up strong resistance and won the match in two games by taking just 18 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Kerby failed to play his normal game as he received severe treatment from his higher ranked country-mate and lost the contest with a huge difference on the score board.
In the first game, Carnwath played with precision as he controlled the pace in the opening rallies and maintained his upper hand over his lower ranked opponent.
In the meanwhile, Kerby failed to perform well against his higher ranked team-mate in the opening half of first game and remained far behind Carnwath on the score board.
After the mid-game break, Carnwath showed his aggression without showing any respect in the court and easily bagged the game with a remarkable score of 21-8.
In the second game, Kerby played a few impressive shots in opening stage but failed to maintain his positive play as his opponent injected pace in his strokes.
Carnwath became quicker in all areas of the court and executed powerful shots in all corners which troubled the rhythm of his lower ranked challenger.
Until the mid-game break in the second set, Carnwath was sailing smoothly in the game while remaining far ahead on the board.
After the interval, Carnwath continued his inspiring performance without any considerable interruption as his opponent almost gave up fighting in the court.
The top seed was smooth in his stepping in the court and he took the second set with a remarkable ease by a sensational margin of 21-9.
Carnwath won this quarter-final showdown quite easily in just 18 minutes with a one-sided 21-8 and 21-9 score on the board.
