Canadian Masters: Kay Marshall ousts Margie Uyeda to advance into next round – Badminton news
Canada’s Kay Marshall proved her superior skills as she advanced into Women’s Singles next round after defeating her higher ranked country-mate Margie Uyeda at the 2012 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships on Wednesday, May 9, in Canada.
Marshall, who is second seed in Women’s Singles draw, was incredible in her play as she did not show mercy in the court and won the hard-fought battle against Margie who was top seeded shuttler in the tournament.
The second seeded Marshall grabbed the opening set easily but lost her focus in the second set. However, she managed to win the third set to register victory over her higher ranked compatriot with a decent margin.
On the other hand, the top seeded Margie tried to play dominating badminton but failed to overpower her lower ranked team-mate and lost the match in thrilling three games.
The opening set was shocking for the top seed when the lower ranked Marshall showed her impressive craft and did not face any trouble in managing an early lead on the board.
After the one-minute interval, Marshall continued her positive and striking play in the game and won the opening set in an inspiring fashion with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
In the second game, Margie showed her brilliance as she found her flow in opening rallies and remained in control this time.
Until the one-minute break in second game of this Women’s Singles battle, both ladies remained close on the board.
After the interval, Marshall tried to dominate the pace but failed to earn points of crucial moments in the game and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the deciding set, both ladies continued playing positive game and kept the home fans engaged. They were quite close until the mid-game break.
After the interval, the second seeded Marshall changed her play and took over the control from her higher ranked rival. She remained positive at the ending phase of third set and bagged it with a decent margin of 21-18.
Marshall overpowered Margie in three games of 52 minutes with a reasonable margin of 21-11, 18-21 and 21-18.
