Question:

Canadian Savings Accounts for US Residents?

I'm a US citizen and I'd like to open a savings account in Canada but I can't find any clear answers on how to go about it. I've looked at various banking sites online but they all say one must be a Canadian citizen or resident. Any suggestions?

  1. Well when i opened a US savings account last month it said I had to be a US citizen. So Canada is probably all the same way.

However, I heard anyone can open a swiss bank account or one in the cayman islands. I'd look there if I were you.Thats where people open them for money laundering, or so I've heard.

  2. You will actually have to open your account in Canada at the branch.  TD Canada Trust will open an account for US citizens, but call the branch that you plan on opening your account to make sure they are able to do so.  Since we all know that not all employees are created equal.
