  2. AOA! I'm not Canadian but I am American so I thought maybe to give you a better answer than the other person. First of all, visas usually take a long time to process but it usually depends on the priority of your application. For example, a wife applying for her husband would be at the top of the wait list. I think for a marriage based visa it takes four years. In your case, I cannot tell you the EXACT timing because it mostly depends on whether or not you have all documentation in order and everything meets the requirements and regulations of the Canadian Embassy. I have heard they are very meticulous about all information.

I advise you to read every instruction for every form that you must submit several times to be sure you have EVERYTHING they need and also more. For example, keep any evidence of family members, and be sure that you have someone who will be eligible for the affadavit of support (that basically means that they earn enough money to help you out during your residence there). Keep photographs of yourself and other family members and any proof of relationship is most important while pleading your case.

Any time you contact the embassy, keep a note of the date and time and the reason for the call this way you can let them know in the future if need be. The same goes for any receipts for forms, copies of faxes or mailed letters. Keep everything in your file. Be sure to always bring along your passport (even the ones that are expired) as they will want to see them. I would purchase a large filing folder and label each section for birth certificates, education doc's, proof of address, etc. Have a xerox copy of everything.

It is not necessary but keeping greeting cards, personal letters, gifts of relatives and even calling cards are great ways to prove your relationship. Also another important thing would be to have letters of recommendation from professors, teachers, and people that you have studied with. It will be important to have a list of reliable references as you will most likely be thoroughly investigated.

I would definitely not give the embassy an impression that you may wish to continue to reside in Canada indefinitely. Instead I would give them the idea that your interest is completely on your studies and that you feel you ultimately belong in your home country. This way you are more likely to get acceptance because the embassies that I have heard of usually don't favor people who plan to move abroad and to use the opportunity as a way to live permanently. This is simply because there is a high volume of people immigrating from India, Pakistan and other Asian countries by the thousands.

I know exactly where you are coming from and this is why I am giving you this strong and sincere advice because it is really a great opportunity for you to leave your country. My husband is from Pakistan and immigrated from there. We traveled to Islamabad many times and I have probably been on the same bus line and taxi/rickshaw route as you. I lived in PK for two years and our daughter was born there (thankfully as a dual citizen). I know exactly how it can be intimidating and the people treat others so rudely and don't want to let them in the door.

If you have all your papers in order you will be fine. But be patient. Call them every week and check your status. It may take years, only Allah knows. If you keep on the same path you will eventually reach your goal but don't let anyone scare you and don't look back. Best of happiness and a good future for you!
