  1. I work for a couple who adopted a little boy a few years ago.  They adopted through the children's aid society and it was free.  Yes, international costs more than "domestic" (haha, sounds like you're talking about a cat)!  and international is a whole lot more complicated.  And I know I'm gonna get some boo's here... but why bring a child from another country here, when there are so many kids in need that are already here, they aren't going away!  i think international adoption is just "trendy", and i think that's sad!  I also don't think people understand the challenges that children from international adoptions can come with.  For example a lot of kids adopted from China, Africa, Romania ect. need years and years of speech therapy, not to mention the psychological /emotional issues from how they were treated in orphanages.

  2. It does cost more to adopt internationally. It is very complicated. Tons of documents and red tape to go through. The decision is both of yours, though. Most countries also have restrictions on couples who aren't married or they require a couple to be married for a certain number of years. Each country and each agency have their own rules. As for domestic, I wouldn't think it would be as complicated nor as expensive but then you have to decide if you want the birth mother involved in your lives or not and I don't know if you have to be married or not. I think you don't have to be but I'm not sure. Either way investigate both until you both feel comfortable and agree. Thank you for considering adoption, regardless. Best Wishes to both of you.

    Heather/Philomania,

I think that's really terrible what you said about international adoption being "trendy". FYI, I did such in 1999. I'm glad that celebrities are adopting, period. Thank God they are bringing this knowledge to the masses, even the hyper-critical and jealous ones. At least the majority are orphans and will have a loving and safe home and family instead of being left to suffer, starve and die.
