Hello ladies/lads;

I am currently Canadian, and am currently in Grade 10. It has been my dream for a number of years to attend the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. It is one of the oldest established institutions of higher learning in North America, and I think it would be truly wonderful to go there. However, from my understanding, it costs in the realm of $40,000/year to attend, and my family simply does not come from such wealth. Thus, I am going to need financial assistance, in the form of scholarships, etc. I was wondering if you could answer a feq questions for me:

1) I understand Americans gauge their marks in the form of a GPA. Up here, we determine an average of our marks and use that to gain entrance to a school. Is it possible to accurately convert a percentage average to a GPA?

2) What kind of marks will I need to gain scholarships that would cover most of my tuition?

Thanks in advance,

Blair

  1. I dont know exactly what averages are like in Canada, but here in the US we average our grades from grades 9-12 on a 4.0 scale.

    A = 4.0

    A- = 3.7

    B+ = 3.3

    B = 3.0

    B- = 2.7

    C+ = 2.3

    C = 2.0

    C- = 1.7

    D+ = 1.3

    D = 1.0

    F = 0.0

  2. Your guidance counsellor will have all the answers you need and if he/she doesn't have them, he/she will know how to get them.

    I believe you will also need to take the SAT's, so you are doing well to start looking into it now.

    By the way, $40,000/ year is a very conservative estimate and is more likely what they charge in-state students. It will likely cost you a good deal more.
