Question:

Canadian citizenship id replacement

I misplaced my friend's canadian ctizenship id card. She needs it to renew her passport. She's in the U.S. on an OPT visa (temp work visa, I-20).

She wasn't born in Toronto, but in India, and her birth certificate isn't here (or lost, I don't know) so she can't use that.

What documents does she or her parents (citizens of Canada, not born there) need to file for replacement ?

How does this affect her status in the U.S. if she leave for Canada for a few days to sort this out?

  1. Your friend needs to re-apply for the card and pay the fees again. She needs to include two pieces of ID (driver's licence and Health card will do). She also needs to include the originals of any documentation she still has from her first application.

Because she is currently out of the country, she should contact the local

    Canadian Consulate office directly.
