Canadian defenseman Steve Eminger re-signs with New York Rangers in the National Hockey League
Steve Eminger, a professional ice hockey player who plays for New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), has re-signed with the same team, as per reports by New York Rangers team them self.
The player, who plays as a defenseman for Rangers, has been reported to have signed a one year extension and he would be paid $750,000 for that. He has been signed as an unrestricted free agent for which would be Eminger’s third straight season with New
York Rangers in the NHL.
New York Rangers have given their blue liner a one year contract for the second year in a row and they have lessened his salaries as he was signed for $800,000 for one year in 2011-2012 season, which shows that salaries of the player are being lessened with
every contract.
The first contract that Woodbridge, Ontario resident signed with any NHL team was in 2008-2009 season when he was signed by Philadelphia Flyers for $1,200,000 for one year. The second contract was a two-year deal with Anaheim Ducks for $2,250,000. But now
he has hit the lowest salary mark of his career.
Much more was expected from first round selectee of 2002 NHL Draft, when he was selected 12th overall by Washington Capitals.
The 6-foot-1, 202 pounder got a call from Team Canada in 2003 World Junior Championships and played for Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 1999-2002 before making his NHL debut for Capitals. He could manage just two assists in 17 games
of first season and got just four assists in 41 games of next season.
Washington Capitals left him for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates Portland Pirates where he again repeated the same performance by getting only four assists in 41 games, without any goals.
2004-2005 season was much better for him as produced 17 assists and scored 3 goals for total 20 points in 62 games, which earned him a call from Capitals in NHL again. The next season was pretty similar with 17 points in 68 games but his downfall began in
2007-2008 season he played just 20 games, getting only two assists.
Since then his performance has been below average, including last year’s performance of only five points in 42 games.
