Canadian defenseman and Edmonton Oilers’ prospect Taylor Fedun all set to return in AHL
Taylor Fedun, a Canadian international ice hockey player, who is a prospect of Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League (NHL), would be looking to return to the hockey as he plays for the Oklahoma City Barons in the American Hockey League (AHL).
The 24-year-old blue liner had suffered a very bad injury last year and remained out of action for a long time but now he was assigned by the Oilers to play for the Barons after the NHL lockout.
The Edmonton, Alberta native is very happy to be back as he was a part of Barons team which outplayed the Houston Aeros on Friday. The defenseman played a key role for a 4-0 Barons’ win in the pre-season game. He felt very good about it and he was very happy
to get the touch back, as he felt no hesitation playing after such a long time. Normally players cannot start well as they are afraid, remembering the injury scenes and the flashback, but Fedun said,
“It was awesome to be back into it. I really didn’t (have any flashbacks) and I’m honestly not just saying that. Going back for a puck and taking that first hit ... it just felt good. There was no hesitation, no negative thoughts when I was out there”.
He admitted that he was nervous and he would be happy to play again as he would be playing like he did before the injury. The 6-foot-0, 190 pounder added,
“There were some nerves, but I’ve always found that to be a good thing. I was able to slow things down and play the way I used to play and hope to again.”
Last year Fedun was in a great form and was challenging for the spot on the roster of the team but he unfortunately suffered an injury in the pre-season as he crashed into a side board, an injury which he kept him out for more than a month.
Barons coach, Todd Nelson praised the played and hailed his efforts as he thinks Fedun is a great fighter because it is always difficult for anyone to make a comeback after such a long time.
