  1. Yes and yes.

BTW a manager for McDonald's makes $50K +.  There are plenty of stiffs out there that dream of tha kind of money.

  2. KingstonSean - The average salary isn't that high, because the salary cap applies not only to active players but to all others under contract.  The active roster limit increased to 42 before the 2006 season, and they're also allowed a 4-man reserve roster.

Also, they're allowed to have up to 68 players under contract during training camp, so the salaries of those players during that time would also go against the cap.

  3. Teams hold try outs but not open try outs.

They have a draft from Canadian colleges

Salary is not that great unless you are starting or you are a QB

  4. The CFL holds an annual college draft of Canadian and non-import NCAA and CIS college players.  One of the links below explains "non-import".  Un-drafted players can be signed by any team as free agents.  The CFL also holds an annual Evaluation Camp.  Some players will put together a highlight video and resume and send it to CFL teams hoping to get an invitation to a training camp or other try-out.

The CFL team salary cap, about $4.05 million, is about the equivalent of what a starting QB would earn in the NFL.  Rosters are limited to 40 active players, so the average is about $100,000 per player.  Starting QBs in the CFL earn an average of close to $400,000 and the minimum salary is around $40,000.

Note: Craig S is correct.  There's also a 7 man practice roster .  So, if you divide the salary cap by the total number of man weeks (including starting QBs and including training camp) you get an average closer to $84,000.

  5. sounds good to me! a little money and all you can eat.  lol :)

  6. Every team has an open try-out every year.  Not too many people make it on to a team that way, but anybody can try, and some definitely do.  The pay can be pretty good for top guys, but there aren't the multi-million dollar contracts like the NFL.  However, there are no McDonald's managers making $240,000 a year!  Ricky Williams was over-paid at anything over minimum wage when in Toronto.  His impact was minimal, and he was far outclassed by talents like Winnipeg's Charles Roberts.

  7. The CFL has a draft
